Hyderabad, March 16 -- CPI Telangana State Secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao on Monday demanded that the State Government increase budget allocations for the Mid-Day Meal Scheme and address the issues faced by cooks working under the programme.
He was speaking at a mass protest held at Indira Park in Hyderabad as part of the "Chalo Hyderabad" campaign organised by the Telangana Mid-Day Meal Scheme Workers' union (AITUC) to press for the resolution of workers' grievances. The protest was presided over by the union's State President P. Prem Pavani.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Kunamneni alleged that around 54,200 cooks working in government schools have been receiving extremely low wages for the past 24 years.
