Lucknow, Aug. 24 -- The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) has directly accused the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh of throttling democracy and transforming the state into a full-fledged "police surveillance state."The party announced that intense protest demonstrations will be held at district headquarters across the state on August 27 against this "assault on citizens' constitutional right to privacy".

Addressing media at the party office here on Monday CPI(ML) State Secretary Sudhakar Yadav stated that police and the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) across various districts of the state are intimidating leaders and activists associated with Left and farmers' movements to demand their personal data.
