Bhubaneswar, Oct. 25 -- The CPI (M) Odisha State Secretariat on Sunday urged the state government to curb soaring prices of essential commodities and intensify cyclone preparedness, warning that traders could exploit the situation to indulge in hoarding and black marketing.

In a statement, party state secretary Suresh Chandra Panigrahy said rising prices of potatoes, onions, rice, pulses, edible oil and vegetables had compounded the hardships of daily wage workers, peasants, agricultural labourers and other low-income groups.
