Kolkata, July 7 -- CPI(M) West Bengal secretary Mohammed Salim on Tuesday launched an attack on the BJP government over the handling of the alleged gang rape and murder of a minor in Baruipur, alleging that despite the change in government, there had been no improvement in policing or law enforcement.

Addressing the media at the party's Alimuddin Street headquarters, Salim claimed that the incident exposed what he described as police inaction and called for immediate police reforms.

"The Chief Minister is making announcements every day, but the Baruipur incident has exposed the complete failure of the police. When the victim's family lodged a missing case, the matter was not treated with the seriousness it deserved," Salim said.
