Thiruvananthapuram, May 19 -- The CPI(M) State Secretariat today said that the full rendition of 'Vande Mataram' during the swearing-in ceremony of the Kerala Cabinet was an "inappropriate" act and contrary to established precedent.

In a statement, the Secretariat noted that the position of not rendering all verses of 'Vande Mataram' had itself been adopted by the Congress Working Committee in the past.

It pointed out that an official resolution of the Congress Working Committee meeting held on October 30, 1937, had led to the removal of certain portions of the song, and that only the edited version was subsequently approved for official use.
