Hyderabad, May 25 -- Senior CPI leader and Central Executive Committee member K Narayana on Monday strongly criticised the sharp increase in petrol and diesel prices, alleging that both the Central and State governments were jointly burdening the public through excessive taxes and cesses on fuel.
In a statement, Narayana said fuel prices were "rising faster than a rocket" and accused governments of exploiting international developments as a pretext to impose steep hikes.
Referring to rising global crude oil prices amid ongoing international tensions and military actions, he alleged that petrol and diesel prices had been increased by nearly Rs 8 per litre within just one week without any rational justification.
