Hyderabad, April 21 -- CPI National Control Commission Chairman K Narayana on Tuesday strongly criticised the functioning of the rural employment guarantee scheme, alleging dilution of its original intent and highlighting several issues affecting workers.

In a statement, he objected to the removal of Mahatma Gandhi's name from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and said the scheme was now being run differently with multiple shortcomings that need immediate correction.
