Patna, June 15 -- The Communist Party of India Monday urged the Central Government to announce a multi-purpose high dam project for permanent solution to Bihar's recurring flood problem.
CPI Bihar State Secretary Ramnaresh Pandey said here that the flood season has begun in the state and that 22 districts suffer the devastating impact of floods every year.
Pandey said floods cause crop losses worth thousands of crores of rupees annually and claim hundreds of lives. He alleged that more than 2,500 people have died due to floods in Bihar over the past two decades, while agriculture and property have suffered extensive damage.
