Patna, March 22 -- The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday demanded compensation from the government to farmers affected by widespread crop damage caused by unseasonal rain and hailstorm in Bihar.
CPI state secretary Ram Naresh Pandey said here that large-scale damage to standing crops was reported across the state due to untimely rain and hailstorm on March 20 and 21, leading to heavy financial losses for farmers.
Pandey said that ready crops of wheat, rabi produce, oilseeds and maize were severely affected. He added that horticultural crops such as mango and litchi have also suffered significant damage.
