Bengaluru, May 4 -- Counting for the bypolls in Bagalkot and Davanagere South began amid tight security arrangements on Monday morning, with authorities putting in place elaborate measures to ensure a smooth and incident-free process.

The BJP has fielded former MLA and 2023 defeated candidate Veerabhadrayya Charantimath from Bagalkot, while it has opted for a fresh face, Srinivas T Dasakariyappa, in Davanagere South.

The Congress, meanwhile, has given tickets to family members of prominent late legislators in both constituencies.

In Bagalkot, Umesh Meti, son of HY Meti, is in the fray, while in Davanagere South, Samarth Mallikarjun, grandson of Shamanur Shivashankarappa, is the party candidate.
