Patna, Aug. 3 -- Counting of votes for the Bankipur Assembly by-election began at 8 a.m. on Monday amid elaborate security arrangements at A.N. College in Patna.

Sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer said the counting process commenced as scheduled under tight security cover. Central Armed Police Forces, Bihar Police personnel and magistrates have been deployed at the counting centre to ensure a smooth and peaceful process.

The entire counting premises and its surrounding areas are under extensive security surveillance, with CCTV cameras monitoring the venue. The strong room, where the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been kept since polling, remains under a tight security cordon.
