Congress State President Ajay Rai placed under house arrest at Agricultural University, Kumarganj

Ayodhya, June 30 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai was placed under house arrest by police at the guest house of Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology in Kumarganj after entering Ayodhya district on Monday, the Congress party said.

Rai was scheduled to visit the Ram Temple with a nine-member Congress delegation that included Barabanki MP Tanuj Punia, Sitapur MP Rakesh Rathore, Allahabad MP Ujjwal Raman Singh and Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma.

Following Rai's detention, Congress workers staged protests at the university campus in Kumarganj and at Teedi Bazaar Square, raising slogans against the police.
