New Delhi, June 29 -- Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday accused the Centre of diluting the rights-based framework of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) through its proposed rural employment initiative, "VB G RAM G", alleging that the new model weakens both employment guarantees and the country's federal structure.
In a post on social media platform X, Ramesh said MGNREGA was designed as a demand-driven programme backed by a legal guarantee from the Central government, whereas the proposed scheme would be based on fixed budgetary allocations shared between the Centre and states.
