Shimla, March 9 -- The Congress has opened its account in the Upper House from Himachal Pradesh with the unopposed election of its candidate Anurag Sharma to the Rajya Sabha for the lone seat from the state.

Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Secretary and Returning Officer Yash Pal Sharma on Monday issued the certificate of election to Anurag Sharma in Shimla after the completion of the nomination process.

Sharma was declared elected unopposed as the opposition BJP did not field a candidate. March 5 was the last date for filing nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election, which was originally scheduled to be held on March 16.
