Mumbai, April 30 -- The upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council elections are set to be held unopposed after the Congress decided not to field any candidate, effectively eliminating the possibility of a contest.
The elections were originally scheduled for May 12, but the situation became clear after the completion of the nomination process, indicating that all seats will now be decided without voting as ten valid nominations have been received for an equal number of seats.
Three independent candidates also filed nominations. However, these independents are unlikely to qualify as their nominations lack the support of 10 MLAs as proposers.
