New Delhi, Sept. 22 -- The Congress on Tuesday demanded an independent Election Commission of India probe into the alleged attack on its leaders, including former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi, during an election campaign in Assam's Nagaon district, and sought suspension of officials accused of failing to prevent the violence.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Congress general secretary Dr Naseer Hussain termed Sunday's incident a "murderous attack" on senior party leaders by masked men, alleging that the attackers were carrying black flags and armed with iron rods and other weapons.
