Kolkata, April 25 -- Seeking to reassert its political relevance in West Bengal after nearly two decades of marginal presence in Assembly contests, the Congress on Friday claimed it would emerge as a "decisive force" in government formation following the ongoing polls.

Senior party leaders, including Rajya Sabha MPs Pramod Tiwari and Akhilesh Prasad Singh, made the assertions at the party's state headquarters, Bidhan Bhavan, a day after the first phase of polling.

Tiwari said while the contest in the state has largely been projected as a bipolar fight between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP, the Congress has re-emerged as a significant third force.
