Buldhana, June 4 -- : Maharashtra Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal on Thursday accused the BJP-led Mahayuti government of attempting to influence the upcoming Legislative Council elections by allegedly offering "crores of rupees" to Opposition candidates to withdraw from the fray.
Addressing reporters in Buldhana, Sapkal claimed that the ruling alliance was seeking to ensure uncontested victories in the June 18 Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections by persuading Opposition nominees to opt out.
"The BJP prefers a system of nominations over democratic elections. Opposition candidates are allegedly being lured with huge sums of money to withdraw their nominations and pave the way for unopposed polls," he alleged.
