New Delhi, Sept. 12 -- The Congress on Saturday welcomed the growing significance of BRICS as a platform for shaping global developments and advancing the interests of the Global South, but urged the Narendra Modi government to use India's chairmanship of the grouping to demonstrate strategic autonomy, diplomatic credibility and "consequential multilateralism".
In a detailed statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Department of the Congress on the occasion of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, the party said India must work with BRICS partners to help forge "an equitable and balanced world order" at a time of geopolitical fragmentation, economic coercion, supply-chain vulnerabilities, armed conflicts and climate stress.
