Lucknow, March 1 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president and former minister Ajay Rai was placed under house arrest by police on Sunday evening in Lucknow, party leaders said.
According to Congress sources, Rai had visited the family of Parshuram Rawat, a contractual lineman who allegedly died due to electrocution while repairing an electricity line in Gram Taraiya on Sitapur Road. After meeting the bereaved family, Rai was reportedly on his way to Fatehpur district to meet a school teacher serving as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) in connection with another incident.
