Shimla, March 7 -- The election for Himachal Pradesh's lone Rajya Sabha seat has effectively become a formality, with Congress nominee Anurag Sharma set to be elected unopposed.

With no other candidate in the fray after the scrutiny and withdrawal stages, Sharma would be formally declared elected on March 9.

Returning Officer and Vidhan Sabha Secretary Yaspal Sharma said that since only one candidate remains in the contest, the election process will conclude with his formal declaration on March 9.

A certificate of election would be issued to Sharma the same day. Security of Nomination filed by Sharma held on Friday.
