Bengaluru, June 18 -- Karnataka's ruling Congress on Thursday secured a decisive victory in the elections to seven seats of the Karnataka Legislative Council, winning five seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged the remaining two.
The elections were necessitated as eight candidates contested for seven vacancies, making polling unavoidable. While four Congress candidates and two BJP nominees were widely expected to win based on the numerical strength of their parties in the Assembly, the contest for the seventh seat drew considerable attention.
Congress candidate Vinay Karthik emerged victorious in the battle for the final seat, defeating Janata Dal (Secular) nominee Govindraju after the counting of preferential votes. The JD(...
