Davanagere (Karnataka), March 16 -- Congress MLC Abdul Jabbar on Monday said he has a better chance of winning the Davanagere South Assembly seat and has sought the party ticket, even as several aspirants are in the fray.

Speaking to media, Jabbar said he is seriously trying for the ticket as he believes his long political experience and grassroots connect made him a strong candidate for the constituency.

A by-election for the Davanagere South Assembly constituency is due soon. This is part of by-elections announced for eight seats across six states.

He said he has been in active politics for nearly 40 years and has served three terms as district president, besides managing several parliamentary election campaigns for the party.
