Bengaluru, Aug. 3 -- Even as the Congress moves to consolidate its hold over Karnataka's legislature after the Cabinet expansion, its reported bid to replace Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti has run into an immediate legal and procedural roadblock.
Hours after reports emerged that the party was considering MLC Salim Ahmed for the Chairman's post and senior leader Umashree for Deputy Chairman, Horatti made it clear that the ruling party's numerical strength alone cannot unseat him.
"The post of Chairman is not vacant. I continue to hold office legally. A Chairman cannot be changed merely because the ruling party has the numbers," Horatti said on Monday.
