Pune, April 25 -- The Pune Municipal Corporation has approved a proposal to organise a series of social and cultural programmes throughout the year to commemorate the birth bicentenary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, the centenary of the Mahad Satyagraha, and 150 years of Phule's tenure as a municipal councillor.
During the general body meeting, Deputy Mayor Parashuram Wadekar, while presiding over the session, directed the formation of a special committee to oversee and coordinate these initiatives.
The proposal had earlier received approval from the Standing Committee.
Wadekar suggested that the year be observed as a "Social Reform Year" to revive and celebrate the inspiring legacy of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The civic b...
