Ashok RainaDharamshala, Sept. 7 -- Sanskrit can be preserved effectively only by making it a language of everyday communication, Himachal Pradesh Central University Vice-Chancellor Prof Sat Prakash Bansal said on Monday.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Sanskrit Week, being organised jointly by the university's Department of Sanskrit and Sanskrit Bharati, Kangra, from September 7 to 11.

The week-long programme began with a yajna performed under the chief patronage of Prof Bansal. Emphasising the importance of Sanskrit in preserving India's knowledge traditions, Prof Bansal said collective efforts were needed to promote the language among the common people and pass Indian thought and knowledge to future generations.
