Kolkata, July 23 -- A suspected attempt to smuggle a cache of arms and ammunition into Bangladesh was foiled after the Indian Coast Guard intercepted a fishing boat near the Indo-Bangladesh International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and detained its four-member Indian crew, officials said on Thursday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Coast Guard launched a search and interception operation off the IMBL on Wednesday in coordination with the Forest Department and intelligence agencies. The suspected fishing boat had reportedly set out from Jherkhali creek in the Sunderbans early that morning, following which Coast Guard personnel mounted an intensive search to locate and intercept it.
