Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 15 -- Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Saturday called upon the people to take a renewed pledge to build a modern, prosperous, secure and inclusive Kerala that upholds democracy, secularism, equality and constitutional values.

Delivering his Independence Day address, the Chief Minister recalled India's historic midnight awakening to freedom on August 15, 1947, and quoted the words of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru that the days ahead would not be easy or restful but would demand continuous effort to fulfil the pledges made to the nation.
