Kolkata, Sept. 10 -- A Class XI student from Jagatballavpur in Howrah was allegedly lured to Kolkata through Instagram with promises of education and employment abroad and subsequently confined in a hotel near New Market, where cybercriminals allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from her family as ransom.

The teenager was allegedly contacted through Instagram and promised opportunities to study and work abroad.

She was then asked to come to Kolkata.

On September 7, she left her home in the Shankarhati-2 area of Jagatballavpur carrying her documents and travelled to Dharmatala.

According to police, the accused had arranged a hired car at Dharmatala, which took the girl to a hotel in the New Market area.

She checked into the hotel alone.
