Bhubaneswar, Aug. 28 -- Two Chinese crew members of the ill-fated Panama-flagged bulk carrier MV Ocean Winner, which sank in the Bay of Bengal on August 22, on Friday recounted their harrowing experience after being rescued from the sea.
The survivors, who had absolutely no knowledge of languages other than Mandarin, narrated their ordeal with the help of interpreters before officials of the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD), the shipping agency, Indian Coast Guard and Paradip Port Authority.
According to their account, the vessel's master alerted all 24 crew members at around 10.30 pm on August 22 that the ship was in distress and instructed them to move to the upper deck and abandon the vessel as it was sinking.
