New Delhi, Sept. 3 -- India's Kidambi Srikanth produced a strong performance to beat world No. 9 Victor Lai of Canada and reach the men's singles quarter-finals of the China Masters Super 750 in Shenzhen on Thursday.

The former world No. 1 defeated Lai 21-18, 21-19 in straight games. Lai had come into the match after beating another Indian, Lakshya Sen, in the previous round.

Srikanth has looked in good touch in the tournament so far. He began his campaign with a 21-16, 21-15 win over Chinese Taipei's world No. 21 Chi Yu-jen in the opening round.

The victory over Lai took Srikanth into his second quarter-final of the season. His previous last-eight appearance came at the US Open in June, where he eventually finished runner-up.
