Kolkata, -- In a significant step towards reviving India-China connectivity, China Eastern Airlines will resume direct flights between Kolkata and Kunming from April 18, the Chinese Consulate here announced on Friday.
The move comes amid renewed efforts by both countries to enhance trade and diplomatic engagement. The development also coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, signalling a broader push to stabilise bilateral ties.
Announcing the resumption, Xu Wei, Consul General of China in Kolkata, said the direct route would significantly reduce travel time, with the one-way journey taking approximately two hours and forty minutes.
