Patna, April 11 -- In a significant step towards women's empowerment and child welfare, the Bihar government has introduced an initiative under which uniforms for Anganwadi children are being stitched by JEEViKA Didis instead of being procured from the market.

Official sources said here on Saturday that so far, more than 10 lakh uniform sets have been distributed across Anganwadi centres in the state.

Under the programme, stitching work is being carried out at over 1,000 cluster-level units by women associated with JEEViKA self-help groups. The initiative is not only promoting decentralised production but also strengthening the rural economy.
