Kolkata, March 15 -- Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced that the West Bengal government will begin paying long-pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears to state government employees, pensioners, teachers and other staff from March this year, just minutes before the announcement of the Assembly election schedule.
The announcement came shortly before the Election Commission of India was scheduled to declare the election dates for West Bengal. The poll panel was to address a press conference at Delhi's Vigyan Bhavan at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
