Raipur, June 16 -- The Congress Tuesday announced a phased statewide agitation against the recent increase in electricity tariffs and the installation of smart meters in Chhattisgarh. State Congress president Deepak Baij alleged that repeated hikes in power charges have placed an increasing financial burden on consumers and accused the BJP government of ignoring public concerns.
Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhavan in Raipur, Baij said the party would oppose what he described as the fifth power tariff increase since the BJP came to power in the state. He termed the latest revision "anti-people" and said the Congress would take the issue to the streets through a series of protests across the state.
