Chandigarh, June 25 -- A man allegedly linked to a gangster network was injured in an exchange of fire with police in Punjab's Batala on Thursday after he reportedly opened fire on a police team during a weapon recovery operation, officials said.
According to police, the accused, identified as Baldev Singh, was arrested in connection with a recent firing incident targeting the residence of a prominent cloth merchant in Batala. The attack had triggered a high-level investigation due to its alleged connection with an extortion racket.
Police said unidentified assailants had opened fire at a house in New Top City Colony on Qadian Road during the early hours of Sunday.
