Chandigarh, Aug. 5 -- Amritsar Rural Police have arrested two alleged drug traffickers and seized 10 kg of heroin in a major anti-narcotics operation, dealing what investigators described as a setback to a suspected cross-border smuggling network.

The operation was carried out in the Gharinda police station area of Amritsar district. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the two accused are being questioned.

Police said the investigation is now focused on tracing the network linked to the seized consignment. Investigators are examining both the backward and forward links to identify the source of the heroin, those involved in transporting it and the intended recipients.
