New Delhi, March 17 -- Amid continued geopolitical tensions in West Asia affecting global energy flows, the Centre on Tuesday stepped up efforts to promote Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as an alternative to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), especially for commercial consumers.

Addressing a media briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies have been asked to actively expand their consumer base.

"Our CGD companies like IGL, MGL, GAIL India and BPCL have announced various incentives for those who want to take PNG connections," Sharma said, underlining the push to accelerate adoption.
