Bengaluru, July 31 -- In a significant development in the long-pending Mekedatu project, the Centre has returned Karnataka's Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir-cum-Drinking Water Project, directing the State to revise it in accordance with the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) award and the latest Central Water Commission (CWC) guidelines.

Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday that the DPR, submitted by Karnataka in 2019, had been sent back for revision and would be processed only after a fresh proposal complying with the prescribed norms is received.
