Panchkula, July 22 -- The centre has proposed amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, to simplify vehicle ownership records and enhance digital governance.
The changes would make it easier for owners to cancel the registration of vehicles that are destroyed, permanently unfit for use, or permanently removed from India. The draft rules are open for public comments and suggestions for 30 days before finalisation.
Under the proposed amendments, vehicle owners must electronically notify the registering authority within 30 days, or as soon as possible, if their vehicle is destroyed or permanently unfit for use.
