Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9 -- Odisha is set to get a major rail-capacity boost with the Centre approving the Kharagpur-Jharsuguda (Bagdehi) fourth-line project as part of a Rs 10,783-crore package for three railway multi-tracking projects across five states.

The projects, cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, will add around 656 km to the railway network and significantly ease congestion on some of the country's key freight corridors.

For Odisha, the Kharagpur-Jharsuguda fourth line assumes particular significance as the route serves major mineral and industrial belts and handles substantial movement of coal, iron and steel, cement and other freight commodities.
