New Delhi, June 3 -- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved the upgradation of the 143.529-km Khagaria-Purnea section of National Highways 31 and 231 in Bihar to four-lane standards at a total capital cost of Rs 3,936.05 crore under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Toll mode, a move aimed at easing congestion, improving road safety and strengthening connectivity across eastern Bihar.
Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting, union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the project would address long-standing infrastructure bottlenecks along a key transport corridor linking Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Katihar and Purnea districts.
