Bhubaneswar, June 3 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested an office superintendent of the Income Tax Office in Odisha's Bhadrak district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a taxpayer.
The accused, identified as Ramesh Kumar Mohanty, was apprehended following a complaint alleging that he had demanded Rs 5,000 from the complainant for facilitating the deletion of a duplicate Permanent Account Number (PAN) card.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI registered a case and laid a trap. During the operation, Mohanty was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the complainant.
The central agency recovered the tainted bribe amount and took the accused into custody.
