New Delhi, March 15 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday said that it has arrested Harpal Singh Ahuja, a proclaimed offender, in connection with a 24-year-old bank fraud case.

A senior CBI official said that the agency registered the case in 2001, and, after completion of the investigation, a chargesheet was filed in 2003 against the accused.

Ahuja, the main conspirator in the case, absconded during the trial proceedings in 2014. He was declared a proclaimed offender by a special court in Ghaziabad in the same year.

An open-dated arrest warrant was also issued by the court in 2017.
