Chennai, June 27 -- Following public uproar and stern rebuke from allies and opposition, Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister and senior Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader KA Sengottaiyan on Saturday backtracked on the reported government directive on providing caste information along with other data in the identity cards of school students.

Only the other day, the Minister, interacting with the media in Erode, had said "in accordance with Chief Minister Joseph Vijay's directive the state government will shortly issue identity cards to all school students, with all key information including caste details besides address, blood group, contact number, and Aadhaar particulars.
