London, July 5 -- A cargo vessel has come under attack by unknown armed assailants off Yemen's Red Sea coast, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday, as authorities launched an investigation into the incident.
UKMTO said it received a distress alert from the vessel located around 30 nautical miles (56 km) southwest of Yemen's port city of Hodeidah.
"A cargo vessel has triggered a distress alert stating that they are under attack by unknown armed assailants," the agency said in a post on X, advising vessels in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
