Houston, June 27 -- Cape Verde scripted one of the biggest stories of the FIFA World Cup by reaching the knockout stage on their tournament debut after holding Saudi Arabia to a goalless draw in their final Group H match at NRG Stadium on Saturday IST.
The point was enough for the African island nation to finish second in Group H behind Spain, who defeated Uruguay 1-0 in the other group match. Saudi Arabia, needing a victory to stay alive, bowed out of the tournament after finishing third. Cape Verde will now face defending champions Argentina in the Round of 32 in a dream showdown for the World Cup debutants.
