Washington, Aug. 23 -- In his first comments since negotiations collapsed between Washington and Ottawa, US President Donald Trump has revived his repeated call for Canada to become the "51st state" of the United States, accusing Ottawa of seeking the benefits of being a state without actually becoming one.
The breakdown of the talks triggered new 50 per cent US tariffs on a range of Canadian goods.
"Canada wants the benefits of being a State, without being one!!! They have also charged our great farmers, for many years, massive amounts of Tariffs. No more!!!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
