Kolkata, Aug. 18 -- In a crucial decision on the ongoing controversy surrounding the recognition of Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of the Opposition, the Calcutta High Court ruled that his continuation in the post is entirely temporary and will depend entirely on the verdict of the single bench.

A Division Bench of Justice Shampa Sarkar did not directly interfere with the decision taken by the Assembly Speaker.

However, the court directed the single bench hearing the case to dispose of the matter finally within two months, obviously implying that the final legal decision on whether Banerjee can continue as Leader of the Opposition will be taken by the single bench within the stipulated period.
