Suri, Sept. 22 -- The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday dismissed a protection plea filed by Birbhum-based stone syndicate mastermind Sheikh Nazimuddin alias Tulu Mondal, after learning that the accused had already left the country.
A single-judge bench of Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya rejected the petition seeking cancellation of his arrest warrant and protection, paving the way for law enforcement agencies to pursue the absconding businessman against whom a non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued.
During the hearing, Senior Advocate Surajit Nath Mitra, the Advocate General (AG), representing the state, informed the High Court that Tulu Mondal had defied a lower court order directing him to appear on September 14.
